The club activities for 2010 are provided below. This list will be changed and up-dated throughout the year as trip opportunities become available. So keep an eye on the list below or in the latest issue of FlyLines for more details about times and locations. For members you should also checkout the forum.

Field Trips Program - 2010

13 - 14 February Gungarlin River Weekend

Camping for two days next to the beautiful Gungarlin River. Experience some exciting dry fly fishing on a pristine alpine stream, which is full of feisty little rainbow trout, with the occasional larger one in the mix to keep you on your toes. It is the perfect place for beginners to get onto a few fish and pick up a few pointers. There might be some casting tuition on offer on the Saturday morning for the any beginners who are interested.

Requirements: Camping equipment, food, 4X4 vehicle or a vehicle with high ground clearance

 

13 - 14 March Beginners/Intermediate Fly Fishers Weekend

A weekend especially for those who are new to fly fishing or want to develop their skills further. We are currently putting together a program that covers some of the basics of fly fishing, including gear set-up, casting, stream tactics and possibly some fly tying for those who are interested. We will be staying at 'Bidgee Lodge” on the Murrumbidgee outside Cooma, and home of the Cooma Trout Acclimatisation Association. The weekend will be catered and arrangements are being made to include a field trip to private access waters. Watch this space for more information.

Requirements: BYO sleeping bag and pillow. Limited number of beds available

 

17 – 18 April Perisher Valley Weekend

Spend the weekend fishing the alpine rivers and streams in the Perisher Valley. Never fished Perisher Creek, Island Bend, Snowy River, Pipers Creek, Munyang River, Guthega Pondage, Spencers Creek, Rainbow Lake, or Thredbo River. Then now is your chance!?

Where: Accommodation, limited to 10, in a Perisher Valley ski lodge: cost is $20 per night per person. BYO food and drinks.

 

15 – 16 May Tantangara Dam

A trip with a difference. Never fished Tantangara before – then now is your chance. Spend a week end fishing from the bank or a boat. This will be a weekend camping trip or come for a day if you can’t make the two days.

12 – 14 June End of Season – Adaminaby Trip

This is the final fling for the season and a great time of the year to be fishing the rivers in the Snowy Mountains. There were some very nice fish caught on previous trips. The Alpine Tourist Park, Adaminaby, will be our base camp for the weekend, and has a range of Camping/Cabin accommodation available and your excellent hosts Jan and Lars will make your stay one to remember.

17 – 18 July Sydney Fly Rodders/ACTFF Caddigat Challenge

A joint trip with the Sydney Fly Rodders fishing stocked private waters near Adaminaby, with easy access to the nearby lakes. The weekend was fantastic last year

Where: Dixieland Private Waters  Location TBC

Requirements: BYO food, clothing, sleeping bag and pillow. Bed and mattress provided

Cost: $100 (To be confirmed) includes accommodation, cooking facilities and access to privately stocked dams for the weekend.

 

15 August Lake Jindabyne Polaroiding -  Day Trip

Come and experience some outstanding polaroiding on Lake Jindabyne.

Trip Leader: Wanted!

Where: The location for this trip will be dependent on the weather and fishing conditions prevailing at the time.

18 – 19 September Fly Tying Weekend

Want to tie flies for the opening weekend? New to fly tying? Ever woven a Czech Nymph? Need help with your Royal Wulff? How about a flash back PT? Parachute flies a problem? Want a simple hopper pattern to tie? Then come to the fly tying weekend.

Where: Deakin Football Club

24 September New Members Casting Day

2 – 4 October Season Opening

22 – 24 October Canberra Leisure Show

Volunteers needed to once again man the Club's marquee to attract new members and get the fly fishing message out there.
